Dental Implants

What is it?

Dental implants are artificial tooth replacements that are used in place of a lost tooth. Although there are various options for the treatment of missing teeth, none have proven to be as functional and durable as implants. In most cases, dental implants may be the only logical choice for the restoration of all the necessary functionality of the teeth and supporting structures.

How is it done?

Dental Implants

Placing the artificial root is a simple surgical procedures. After the implant is placed, it is left alone for four months. Most of the time is spent waiting for the integration of the implant.

How dental implants are placed depends on the type of implant used and the condition of the jawbone.

The implant cylinder is first placed in your jawbone. After the implant has integrated in the bone the abutment is placed. An impression is made and the dental lab will then fabricate your new tooth, sometimes called an implant prosthesis.

What can you expect?

Implant prosthesis are both natural looking, stable and very functional. They look much better and feel better than removable partial denture or a full denture. It is nice to know that implants will not decay and never need root canal treatment.

What are the risks?

From start to finish, getting an implant is a relatively long procedure, when compared to options such as dental bridges and dentures. So, your doctor at James E. Johnson DDS, & Associates P.C. would be glad to discuss with you the best option to suit your requirements.

Some people may experience temporary discomfort or pain for a couple of days.

Since this is a surgical procedure, sometimes bruising and minor swelling may be seen immediately after the procedure.
