Dentures
What is it?
Dentures are removable teeth replacements. Typically, they are made from an acrylic resin to custom-fit for you.

If you are experiencing teeth loss, we at James E. Johnson DDS, & Associates P.C. have experienced dentists who can help you determine if and what type of dentures are the right choice for you.
How is it done?
Getting your custom-made denture usually takes about 3 to 4 visits. The first step for us to fabricate your denture is to take an impression of your mouth, to get your exact measurements. Depending on your oral circumstances, some of your teeth may have to be removed before taking your impression.
The dental lab will fabricate your custom-fit denture using your impression
Once the preliminary denture is fabricated, we schedule you for a try-in appointment to fine tune the color, shape, and custom-fit of the denture for you.
You final denture will then be fabricated and we will place them for you. At this time your dentist at James E. Johnson DDS, & Associates P.C. will also provide you the detailed maintenance and care required for you to make you denture experience a rewarding one.
Follow-up
Follow-up visits have to be determined on a case-by-case basis. What can you expect, and what are the risks?
Dentures help to strengthen muscles controlling your facial expressions that require the support of your teeth. They also help resolve pronunciation and chewing problems caused by missing teeth.
Dentures definitely take a little getting used to, especially when chewing and speaking. Most people get used to their dentures in a couple of days.
Typically dentures last from five to ten years. But since your mouth can change over the life of your dentures, they may need to be replaced in order to achieve a better fit, even before they are worn out.
Proper denture maintenance and good dental hygiene are important to avoid mouth irritation or mouth sores.
In the case of a full upper denture, the upper palate is covered so it can change the taste of food.
