Teeth Cleanings
“Teeth cleaning” is simply the removal dental plaque and deposits from teeth. Proper teeth cleaning is essential to prevent cavities (dental caries), gingivitis, and periodontitis. Regular teeth cleaning by a professional dentist/dental hygienist is important to remove tartar (mineralized plaque) that may develop even with careful brushing and flossing, especially in areas that are difficult for a patient to reach on their own at home.

Your dentist at James E. Johnson DDS, & Associates P.C. will help you to determine how often you should have your teeth cleaned; and we provide excellent teeth cleaning services for you.
Our teeth cleaning services include:
- Tooth scaling: removal of plaque, calculus and stain from the crown and root surfaces of teeth.
- Root planing: a specific treatment that removes the roughened cementum and surface dentin that is impregnated with calculus, microorganisms and their toxins.
- Tooth polishing: smoothening of tooth surface. The purpose of polishing is to make it difficult for plaque to accumulate on the tooth surface.
- Debridement: This procedure is done in cases where there is excess tartar accumulation. It involves the use of instruments to loosen and remove deposits from the teeth. We generally use ultrasonic instruments and mild chemicals such as hydrogen peroxide for debridement.
