Traditional Braces

With over a century of history behind it, traditional braces offer an unquestionably effective option for straightening teeth even in most difficult scenarios.

Traditional Braces

Most of the time, the question is traditional braces versus Invisalign. Your dentists at James E. Johnson DDS, & Associates P.C. can determine whether traditional braces or Invisalign is the best option for you. If the correction required is not mild, you may require traditional braces to get satisfactory results. In those cases you would spend much less time if you went with the metal brackets.

Because of their effectiveness in correcting more complex cases of tooth crookedness, traditional braces will still continue to dominate as a treatment option for younger adults.

What can you expect?

The modern technologies we use at James E. Johnson DDS, & Associates P.C. utilize smaller, more comfortable and less noticeable wires and braces. Therefore, they will not be painful like the old generation metal braces. These modern braces also use softer and more flexible wires and straighten teeth faster. The braces can be of metal or nearly invisible ceramic materials, depending on your choice. You can also select colors to augment your braces or go with tooth colored to blend.

Traditional Braces

Braces and orthodontic treatments are not merely for improving the appearance. Orthodontic treatment will improve bad bites (malocclusions) that occur because of tooth or jaw misalignment. Malocclusions affect the way you smile, chew, clean your teeth or feel about your smile. Traditional dental braces are used in orthodontic treatment to straighten teeth on most boys, girls, adults, teenagers and kids to correct malocclusion.

During your first visit, your doctors at James E. Johnson DDS, & Associates P.C. will examine your teeth to determine if traditional braces are suitable for you. In some cases, we may determine that Invisalign may be a better option for you.

Follow-up

Treatment can take from one to three years, depending on the complexity of the correction required. Periodic return visits to inspect, tighten and readjust the braces are required according to your treatment plan. Once your teeth are correctly aligned, your braces can be removed. However, wearing a retainer is often required.

How much would the treatment cost?

Traditional braces is a very mature technology and generally a very reliable treatment option. Your cost however could vary depending on the types of braces you select as well as the duration of the treatment and the complexity of the correction that is necessary. Please give us a call at (202) 783-3368 to setup an appointment. The experienced doctors at James E. Johnson DDS, & Associates P.C. will be able to give you a firm estimate after evaluating your specific condition.
